The most convenient is USD — the standard currency for trade in Southeast Asia. MYR (Malaysian ringgit) is possible but less practical for the Russian side. Check with your bank for the payment routes available after 2022.

Russia Trade Contract with Malaysia: A Practical Guide

Malaysian company details in the contract

Malaysian companies are registered with the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM — Suruhanjaya Syarikat Malaysia). The main identifier is the Business Registration Number (BRN) for older companies or the Company Number (12 digits) for newer ones. Company type: Sdn Bhd (Sendirian Berhad — private limited) or Bhd (public limited). You can check a company at mycoID.ssm.com.my. SWIFT: Maybank — MBBEMYKL, CIMB — CIBBMYKL.

CISG and governing law

Malaysia is not a party to the CISG. The Convention does not apply automatically to Russian-Malaysian contracts. It is recommended to explicitly specify the governing law — either Russian law or neutral English law with arbitration at SIAC (Singapore), which Malaysian partners often prefer.

Logistics: shipping routes from Malaysia to Russia

The main route is sea freight from Port Klang or Penang. Transit time to Vladivostok is 20–25 days (via the South China Sea); to Novorossiysk via the Suez Canal — 35–40 days. Most cargo passes through transit hubs in Singapore. Air freight from Kuala Lumpur to Moscow for urgent shipments takes 9–11 hours.
