Russia Trade Contract with Iran: Key Features

Iran is a strategic trade partner for Russia. Bilateral trade turnover is actively growing, driven by the development of the North–South Transport Corridor and the shift away from the dollar in mutual settlements.

Iranian company details

In the contract, specify the company's National ID (شناسه ملی), its full name in Farsi and English, its address, and the banking details of the Iranian bank. Verification is available through the SANA portal.

Settlements without SWIFT

Iran is disconnected from the SWIFT system. Settlements are carried out via SPFS, the Mir system, in rubles through Russian banks, or through intermediaries in neutral jurisdictions. Clearly specify the payment mechanism and deadlines in the contract.

CISG and governing law

Iran has not ratified CISG. Iranian commercial law is based on the 1932 Commercial Code (as amended). For arbitration, the ICAC at the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry or the Tehran International Arbitration Center (TIAC) is recommended.
